Located at the base of Mount Rainier’s foothills, Lake Tapps is a serene glacier lake with a scenic and laidback community nestled along its shores. The lake has a surface area of about 4.5 square miles, and a shoreline covering roughly 45 miles. The unincorporated community surrounding the lake is currently home to nearly 12,000 residents.
Part of Pierce County, Washington, Lake Tapps was created back in 1911 by electric utility Puget Sound Energy (PSE) to provide flood control and produce hydroelectric power. It was formed out of four pre-existing lakes which were raised to create a single large reservoir. After power production ceased in 2004, PSE eventually sold the lake to Cascade Water Alliance in 2009. The municipal corporation now provides drinking water to over 350,000 residents and more than 20,000 businesses in the region.
Today, the community of Lake Tapps offers an exceptional quality of life, thanks to a prime location that features picture-perfect views and easy access to a wealth of family-friendly attractions and amenities. It is an ideal place to live, work, and play, as the community has plenty to offer, including unforgettable recreational opportunities, two top-rated school districts, close proximity to major highways and public transit options, and more.
